Introduction to Calligraphy

Suitable for complete beginners

In this primer workshop, you will be introduced to contemporary calligraphy. You will be given a set of tools to experiment and will be taught the basics of contemporary calligraphy based on pointed-pen styles.

In this session, you may choose to use any of the pens given to you to form basic words and letters.

This workshop is structured as an opportunity to dip your toes into the waters of calligraphy. You will be able to write basic calligraphy letter forms by the end of this class.

Modern Calligraphy

Not suitable for complete beginners

In this workshop, you are expected to be somewhat familiar with the pen. There will be a short refresher on how to use the pen, but we will not focus on how to use it.

We will focus more on how to form each of the letters and how to give them a modern touch.

Since this class focuses on the script, you may choose to use any of the following pens:

Straight Pen with Pointed Nib, Brush Pen, Oblique Pen with Pointed Nib.

Copperplate Calligraphy

Not suitable for complete beginners

In this workshop, you are expected to be somewhat familiar with the pen. There will be a short refresher on how to use the pen, but we will not focus on how to use it.

We will focus on the aspects of Copperplate Calligraphy and how to form each letter.

As Copperplate is written with a slant of about 45°-57°, it is advised that right-handed students use an oblique holder with pointed nib, and left handed students use a straight holder with pointed nib.
